Depression May Worsen Health for Cancer Caregivers

June 30, 2017 by Marylee MacDonald

THURSDAY, June 29, 2017 (HealthDay News) — Depression is known to be linked to worsening physical health, and a new study finds this may be especially true for cancer caregivers.

Watch out for depression if you’re caring for someone with cancer. The endless rounds of chemo, radiation, and the like take a toll on the patient, but they also wear down the caregiver. Most of us can deal with health crises graciously, but when depression undermines our stores of energy, it’s hard to keep going.

8 Hours Relaxing Nature Sounds Calming Birdsong Sound of Water Relaxation Meditation

When I get out in nature my body relaxes. A walk in the forest or a stroll on the beach restores my spirits.

Caregivers need a way to unwind. Our bodies need to recover from the watchfulness and tension that go along with looking after a loved one. But caregivers are often housebound. They (we, because I have done this, too) rarely have the luxury of driving to the ocean or taking a hike in the mountains.

To approximate the calming and restorative powers of being out in nature, relaxation tapes, nature programs on PBS, or these nature videos could be the next best thing.
